Policy-based SLA storage management model for distributed data storage services

    Get PDF
There is  high demand for storage related services supporting scientists in their research activities. Those services are expected to provide not only capacity but also features allowing for more flexible and cost efficient usage. Such features include easy multiplatform data access, long term data retention, support for performance and cost differentiating of SLA restricted data access. The paper presents a policy-based SLA storage management model for distributed data storage services. The model allows for automated management of distributed data aimed at QoS provisioning with no strict resource reservation. The problem of providing  users with the required QoS requirements is complex, and therefore the model implements heuristic approach  for solving it. The corresponding system architecture, metrics and methods for SLA focused storage management are developed and tested in a real, nationwide environment

The purpose of this thesis is a strategic analysis of the particular factors of the environment of Kompania Piwowarska Inc. The factors mentioned above influence the development and functioning of the organization. The first part of the thesis is theoretical, aiming at defining the strategy as a notion. The typology of the strategy has been in accordance with the postulates of various schools of strategic thought. The functional significance of strategic analysis as a set of actions diagnosing the environment of the organisation has been presented along with the instrumental significance - relevant nature and features of the chosen methods of strategic analysis of the company’s environment: PEST method, Porter's five forces analysis, Growth–share matrix and SWOT analysis. The second part of the thesis is a description of the research process in which Kompania Piwowarska Inc. is a subject. The process mentioned above features conducting the analysis of the company’s macro-environment enabling the PEST method segmentation of the further company’s environment. The diagnosis mentioned above is based on the data analysis up to and including 2019. The purpose of the diagnosis is defining the trends and occurrences capable of making a fundamental difference for the operation of the company in 2020 (without taking the COVID-19 pandemic into account). The conclusions of the research process conducted are based on the identified changes and threats coming from the environment of the subject concern. The conclusions are formulated using a SWOT analysis at the end of this thesis

Distributed 2-D Molecular Dynamics Simulation on Networked Workstations and Multiprocessors

. In the paper we present a parallel program for molecular dynamics simulation of 2-D Lennard-Jones systems with large number of particles (10 6 +). The parallel algorithm is based on geometric decomposition and it was implemented on networked workstations and on the CONVEX Exemplar SPP 1000 and SPP 1200 under PVM. The program was written in C language and optimised for the execution time and memory requirements. The computational complexity is reduced by use of distributed neighbor (Verlet) and link (Hockney) lists. On heterogeneous or loaded networks load balance is obtained by an adaptive repartitioning of the computational box during a simulation run. The load balancing procedure is based on the assumption that time of computation scales linearly with the number of particles. Sample results of a simulation of a flow around a cylinder are reported. 1 Introduction Molecular dynamics (MD), well established technique for the study of solids, liquids and molecular systems, is becomin..

Management Methods In Sla-Aware Distributed Storage Systems

Traditional data storage systems provide access to user’s data on the “besteffort” basis. While this paradigm is sufficient in many use cases it becomesan obstacle for applications with Quality of Service (QoS) constraints. ServiceLevel Agreement (SLA) is a part of the contract agreed between the serviceprovider and the client and contains a set of well defined QoS requirementsregarding the provided service and the penalties applied in case of violations. In the paper we propose a set of SLA parameters and QoS metrics relevantto data storage processes and the management methods necessary for avoidingSLA violations. A key assumption in the proposed approach is that the underlyingdistributed storage system does not provide functionality for resource orbandwidth reservation for a given client request
